Vernett Brown Monroe

Vernett (Brown) Monroe was born February 25, 1943, in Williston, Florida to the late Samuel Brown Sr. and Quilla Mae Brown. Vernett was the only child born to this union, as Quilla passed away when Vernett was just a baby. At three years old, Vernett’s father remarried Lilly Bee Brown and from that union came her siblings: Gloria Smith of Tallahassee, Florida, Lois Brown of Archer, Florida, Samuel Brown Jr. (Terrell) of Jonesville, Florida, and Margaret McKinley of Archer, Florida.

Vernett, affectionately known as Net, was educated through the Williston Vocational School system, and worked as a custodian at Perkins State Bank and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Williston Care Center (formerly Oakview Rehabilitation & Care Center).

On December 2, 1964, Vernett married the late James Joseph Monroe Sr. and from that union had five children.

A lover of family and cooking, Vernett’s favorite thing to do was to have family and friends over for food, fun, and laughter. She also loved animals, home décor, and music.

Vernett is preceded in death by her husband, James Joseph Monroe Jr., her daughter, Willie Mae Miles, and her grandson, Aaron Miles.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Allen Monroe, Quilla Oates (Lamonica), James Joseph Monroe Jr. (Que-My), and Nicole Monroe; her grandchildren, Danielle Henry (Gary), Marrio Monroe, Martinus Monroe, Willie Monroe, April Oates, Ciera Monroe Banks (Micheal), Jameka Monroe, James “Tre’” Monroe, Ericka Leggon, and Jasmine Duncan; 11 great grandchildren; an uncle, Earl Brown (Henrietta) and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
