BUTLER CURTIS HAGINS, JR.
1938-2026
Butler C. Hagins, Jr., affectionately known as “Fats” or “Butch” was born on November 18, 1938, in Monticello, Florida, to Inez Greene and Butler C. Hagins, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. At the age of five, he was adopted by Ms. Josie J. Argrette of Inverness, Florida.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated in 1959. He later continued his education at Hampton Junior College in Ocala, Florida. In March 1962, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and faithfully served until October 1, 1983, completing more than 20 years of service. Later that same year, he began working with the Department of Corrections, where he served for 16 years as a supervisor until June 1999.
Butler was united in marriage to Mercie D. Milligan Hagins for more than 50 years. She preceded him in death.
Butler was a devoted member of Christ Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Dunnellon, Florida, where he served on the Deacon Board and as Chairman of the Trustee Board. He was also a member of Dunnellon Masonic Lodge #114, where he served as Worshipful Master and later as District Deputy Grand Master.
On June 3, 2026, Mr. Butler answered the Lord’s call and entered into eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Michael (Nicole) Hagins of New York; one daughter, Sygrid Lenor Robertson of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters: Joan Sams of St. Petersburg, Florida, Betty Stokeley of Miami, Florida, Dr. Kisstern Haggins of Jacksonville, Florida and Belinda Taylor Lewter of Tampa, Florida; One Brother: Jerome Brown of Williston, Florida; Sister in law: Mae Guiton & family(Dallas Texas) and Friend: Wilma Terry & My Savannah Family. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He preceded him in death by Two Brothers: Daniel Brown and Alfonza Brown; One Sister: Carolyn Brown.
